On the occasion of World Malaria Day, SOLMED Alliance recalls the importance of investing in prevention measures to combat malaria.
It is a disease that kills more than 400,000 people annually and, that is why SOLMED Alliance works every day to reduce the transmission of this disease, through strict medical checks to all our employees and especially to those with greater vulnerability.
Our employees are trained by qualified personnel to prevent and combat the disease. Also, SOLMED uses all types of systems to avoid and reduce contact with the mosquito that causes this disease. One of the most effective measures for malaria prevention is the use of insecticide-treated nets and, of course, indoor and outdoor spraying with insecticides.
At the same time, SOLMED Alliance uses effective communication strategies to inform people about the risks of developing the disease and on the importance of taking all necessary measures to avoid any contact with the mosquito.
In order to prevent this disease, antimalarial drugs must be used. Travelers should take prophylactic drugs that stop the infection in their blood stage and thus prevent the disease. At the same time, early diagnosis and treatment of malaria attenuate the incidence of the disease, reduce its deadly effects and help prevent its transmission.
Currently, there is no authorized vaccine against malaria, although research on a malaria vaccine is quite advanced. In November 2016, World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the RTS,S vaccine will be used for pilot projects in 3 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The beginning of vaccination program is planned for 2018, which would be a major advance for the widespread use of malaria vaccine.
